Des Plaines Glass Company is a union glazing
contractor, established in the state of Illinois in 1954.
Our specialty is glass and aluminum storefront work in shopping
centers and one- to two-story office/warehouse buildings.
We also have completed many projects of various sizes and
scopes, including recreational centers, schools, government
administration buildings, sports venues, hospitals and heath
care facilities.
Our principle officers have backgrounds of
field experience, as well as 55 years of combined estimating
and supervisory experience.
All of our employees are Union members and
have completed the necessary apprentice/journeyman and safety
programs as required. Our union affiliations are with Glaziers
Local #27 and Sheet Metal Workers Local #73.
Founded in 1954 by Frank Hickson and Izzy Glassman,
Des Plaines Glass was sold in 1962 to Herbert "sandy"
Sandlass and Jere "JD" Davis. They both spent the
next twenty-five years working towards making Des Plaines
Glass a profitable and successful business.
Originally located at 1374 Miner St., in Des
Plaines, the small 1,000 sq. ft., 2nd floor office and 2,000
sq. ft. shop was added on to in 1972, with a 4,000 sq. ft.
addition.
Mike and Mark, Sandy's sons, started with the
company in 1977 and 1984. With Jere's retirement in 1987 and
Sandy's semi-retirement in 1992, Mike and Mark were installed
as the company's main officers, positions they both still
hold today.
2003 brought more change when we relocated
and moved into our brand new 10,000 sq. ft. facility at 962
Lee St., in downtown Des Plaines, only a few blocks from our
original location.
With our added size and technological advances,
we are able to more quickly serve our customers with a wider
range of products, and will be able to do so well into the
21st century.
